Happy International Women’s Day!

21/03/2023

Happy International Women’s Day (IWD) to all the ladies of TJHB! A group of women from every depot and a variety of corporate teams gathered at Port Botany on 8 March to celebrate, share morning tea and enjoy a catch-up.

IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. The day has been observed since the early 1900s – a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialised world, that saw booming population growth. That era also saw the rise of radical ideologies (such as women being able to vote)!

But while much has improved for many women around the world in the century since then, far more work needs to be done before equality truly exists for all.

Managing Director Rachel Spencer and other female members of the Senior Leadership Team also attended an IWD breakfast at Coogee, where State Member for Coogee Dr Marjorie O’Neill facilitated a panel discussion made up of inspiring women who saw an injustice or a gap in community services and became the change they wanted to see – creating highly successful organisations and charities in the process.

So please thank all the women in your life today – and value them every day.
